The Five-Piece Capsule for Reformer and Everyday

31 July 2026

Most people wear about twenty percent of what they own. Activewear is worse than average, because it accumulates — a class here, a sale there — and very little of it coordinates.

A capsule solves this by being deliberately small. Five pieces, one palette, every combination wearable.

1. A slim compression legging

The workhorse. High-rise, dense knit, no side seam pulling. This is the piece you will wear most, so it is the one worth spending on. In a neutral — black, mocha or grey — so it goes with everything else.

2. A wide-bottom legging

Same waistband, different silhouette. A flare or wide hem reads as trousers rather than gym kit, which is what makes it work for the walk before and the coffee after. This is the piece that gets you out of the house without changing.

3. A supportive bra

Match it to your highest-impact session, not your lowest. A bra that handles running will be perfectly comfortable on a reformer; the reverse is not true.

4. A layering top

A tank or a crop that can sit alone in a studio and under something on the way there. Choose it in a tone that sits next to both your leggings, not against them.

5. One outer layer

A zip jacket that survives an air-conditioned studio, an over-cooled car and an evening outside. This is the piece people see most and the one most likely to be an afterthought.

Making it work

Keep the whole capsule inside two or three tones. Neutrals for the two bottom pieces, and let the top layer carry any colour. That is the entire trick — once the bottoms coordinate with everything, getting dressed stops being a decision.

Five pieces, worn constantly, will outlast fifteen worn occasionally. They also look considered, which is a different thing from looking new.
